Accidents happen. It is just a part of life. If you leak some urine, wash the area of your skin gently as soon as you can. There are special cleansers available for incontinence–they are very gentle and allow you to clean frequently without irritation.
It is also a good idea to put on a barrier cream after you bathe or shower to protect the skin from urine. You could use lanolin, petroleum jelly, or cocoa butter.
Some people believe that a deodorizing tablet, such as Body Mint or Nullo, can help reduce the odor of one’s urine. And if Vitamin C does not interfere with any medication you are taking, it can also help with odor control.
A lot of people believe that reducing liquid intake will help with incontinence. It is not true! It is better to drink more water when you are experiencing incontinence. More water is better for the bladder and it results in less concentrated urine. Less concentrated urine mean less of a strong odor.
If you have a leak of urine on your bed or furniture you can use a 1:1 solution of water to white vinegar to deal with the odor. There are also enzyme products available that will break down the urine crystals and neutralize odor.
Remember, there are treatment options for incontinence. Butif you have a leak of urine, you will know what to do.
